5 things you wanted to finish, but never did
This is an article about 5 activities you always wanted to do but put out till the best times. So, those times just came.
1. Touch-typing
Bring your average speed and accuracy to speed to the best possible level. The best site for that is https://www.typing.com/. Its benefits: easy design, gamification, and quick results. As a former translator and copywriter, I had to know the touch typing method, because it is obvious for those whose work is connected with typing. But was it the first thing I learned? No for sure. I learned how to type on QWERTY only in 2013 when it was a requirement for my work. And during quarantine, I restored this skill and got my certificate with 33 words per minute average speed, but it is all mine, and I can type with all my fingers. Even now I’m typing this post slowly, but in touch typing method and enjoy it a lot.
2. Try microblogging
Are there many quality enough blogs on your profession or hobby? Try some of the options: write, make audio podcasts, or film a video. You can open a room in Club House and discuss there something that interests you. When I started my LiveJournal blog in 2009 I did it without any purpose or material thoughts. I know bloggers and ex-bloggers who is doing blogging for money, but I never thought about my blog as a source of cash. With time I just enjoyed my blog and friends there, and I was quite successful in my hometown. And once a very huge blogger gave the next characteristics to my blog: “Alla has a very charismatic and genuine blog, but she doesn’t have some specific topic. That’s her core problem”. And it was a problem, I guess, but not for you, the reader of this post. Because you can write the same about what I wrote — about yourself, and become genuine.
3. Plant microgreen
Microgreen planting is for those who can’t understand the idea of having flower pots at home but want to try some gardening. Well, raise the hand to those, who could be called the plants’ killers because the percentage of flowers’ survival in your house is 1%. I’m that person! But microgreens are different. While taking care of them you can kill several birds with one stone: enjoy the observation of the plants growing, and gather the crop regularly. It is nice and pleasant to empower a salad with fresh greens of a different taste. I like sunflower microgreens and onion (Chives Schnitt) microgreens. The first has a cool rich taste of sunflower seeds, and the second is spicy.
4. Try 365 days challenge
And dedicate your time to some activity within a short or a long period. I was engaged with 365illustrationchallange. Some results of my day-to-day activity you can check on Facebook under the #365illustrationbyalla hashtag and the best ones now live on Dribble, and even available for purchase on Shutterstock. I started this challenge to get permission to make the further step in illustration, to allow myself to think of the further actions in this direction. You are free to start with 30 or 100 days challenges. By the way, the illustration above is made by me during the 365 illustration challenge.
5. Live 10,5 months without shopping
I did it in 2020 and still remember those days with pride and nostalgia. Can I do it again? Sure, because since the end of my taboo, I bought a lot of stuff: bodysuits, coat, hat, 2 bags, basic T-shirts, etc. Still, I have moderate tastes now and can’t call myself a shopaholic. But I was one before. And this feeling of consciousness limitation is quite pleasant. Especially if you have a good reason to save your money (I had one). Find a good reason and plan your expenses in order not to simply save, but to look forward and dedicate this time to observations and pinning cool stuff to your Pinterest. I even went to the stores and tried on some clothes, but never bought one. It was cool too. I just looked precisely at the piece of clothes and asked myself that only one question: “Do I truly need it? What for? Can I survive without it or it can enrich my collection?”. And that’s how I managed to make it 10,5 months.
