365 illustration challenge. I did it!

It started one spring Sunday, on the 10th of March 2019. That day I just thought: "I can do it; I can create illustrations daily within the year." I have never participated in any drawing challenge before. I even thought that that thing was not for me. Why?

The truth is I'm not a Designer or an Illustrator. I have never studied any arts or else. I just liked to draw while being a Happiness Manager. But it was before, in 2018. My boyfriend always was fond of my art, and I even made some illustrations for him. He saw a grain of talent in me, so he insisted on applying to the Graphic Designer course.

That's how I started to learn how to be a Graphic Designer at Projector School. Together with ten students, I had been studying different areas:

  • composition,
  • color schemes,
  • package design principles, and else for four months.

When I graduated, I decided to change my life and start to make illustrations. So, at 3 AM at the kitchen of my apartment, I registered on Shutterstock.

To join the Shutterstock contributors' community, you must pass the exam. It is pretty simple: download 10 of your artwork and wait till the site accepts them. I will get them. So, I selected the ones with watercolors and some patterns. I passed the exam on the first attempt! That's how I started to make illustrations for micro stocks. That was the number two goal of my 365 illustration challenge. I wanted not simply to make some random illustrations. I tried to put them in stock and sell them.

The number one goal was to create a portfolio. It could be evident that I wanted to become a Graphic Designer, but not. I never dreamed about it. I love people, and the best job should be tightly connected with humans. That's why I'm a Community Manager now. What I wanted was a decent hobby for such a creative soul of mine. And I got it.

So, my challenge ended, and I felt somehow sad. But, I fell in love with my characters and patterns. And I would like to share their story with you too. So, every week I'll tell you about my illustrations and the things, people, events that had inspired me. And maybe inspirational for you as well.

I'm a PMO Community Manager, and my Medium is made of materials about Community and Event Management and partially Marketing.

My contacts: LinkedIn (English), Facebook (Ukrainian).
